The Vixen's Lady Fox Index

Mari Jiwe McCabe (1978-Present) would have been the first woman of color to star in a DC Comic, had her debut series not been canceled prior to publication during the infamous "DC Implosion," when the entire production line was slashed. Instead, the Vixen's first published appearance was in Action Comics #521 (July 1981,) where she began a series of guest starring dates in Superman titles. Following a costume redesign, Vixen became the first black person (and only the fifth woman) to join the Justice League of America, specifically their "new" Detroit incarnation of 1984. She remained on the team until its dissolution, then after a very brief hiatus, joined Amanda Waller's Task Force X. As one of the heroes tasked with wrangling super-villains employed as a Suicide Squad by the U.S. Government, Vixen served for most of their series' run. This marked his longest term relationship, both with a series and with a co-star, the Bronze Tiger. Throughout the 90s and 00s, Vixen made sporadic guest appearances, before finally rejoining the Justice League from 2006-2010. She is currently on medical leave following injuries sustained in the Cry For Justice mini-series.
