I love Darwyn Cooke. The New Frontier is one of my all time favorite books--not just comics, but favorite novels!

That said, this isn't a very appeasing Aquaman. There's nothing really Aquaman-ish about it. Nice image; just not Aquaman.

The good thing about pop culture shorthand is that blond guy + lives underwater = Aquaman for most people. I like it specifically because it's so far removed from any preconceived notions people might have about "the guy who can talk to fishies." You're not cracking jokes around this guy-- just hoping he keeps "that thing" (options 1-3 include an eel and a spear) away from you. On the other hand, there is a bit of Sub-Mariner menace I wouldn't want to see played out in long form. I like my Aquaman friendly and accessible, with moments of "oh dang badassery" hinted at here. Too much of the latter is trying to hard and/or aping Namor.
